Fixing copy and paste shortcut problem on Microsoft Office 2007(works with 2003 too) март 13, 2010

Here I am going to post some instructions on how to fix a problem with misplaced keyboard shortcuts in Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007. I am one of the people that don’t like using mouse, but rather use the familiar keystrokes to get things things done quicker.

So the root of my problem was that with no obvious reason my copy and paste shortcuts stopped working. I tried looking for problems like this, but the solutions were either too complicated or too unreal to work. So I started reinstalling MS Office 2007, but nothing happened, Tried to delete the registry keys corresponding to MS Office, but nothing again. I read in some forum that most of the personal customization data was stored in “normal.dot” file. I tried deleting or modifying that file and had no success again. I forgot to mention that I also tried to change the shortcuts from the keyboard section in “more commands”, but I couldn’t find the copy and paste commands to which to assign new keyboard shortcut. After a couple of days looking for a solution I read a post about something like that.

And there it was the solution so close, and yet so distant.

While into submenu of More Commands there is a button keyboard. You go there to change shortcuts for any command. The problem is that “copy” is not filed as “copy”, but as “editcopy”. The same thing is for “paste” and “select all” functions. When you find them you have to insert the key combination that you desire in the right empty bar, remove the old one if there is one and click on Assign!

That’s it! It is simple, but it’s incredibly annoying to look for!
